Hi Ladies!
Welcome to WISSC issue 10, dropping on 10/10. My apologies that I missed landing in your inbox on the 2nd Wednesday as I was with the amazing team at Jetr Global yesterday for their sports diplomacy event (great to see many of you there!) but the upside of being a day belated is today is World Mental Health Day, so this is your reminder to take care of yourself amidst changing the world through sports. Here’s a blog post I wrote on the topic this day last year, including lessons we can take from sports stars like Simone Biles, Kevin Love and Lane Johnson (Go Birds).
For those here in America, t-minus 25 days until the election! More hype below, and if you don’t believe sports + politics are inherently related, I have a few books and research papers I can recommend. Speaking of recommendations, last reminder I’m still taking input on your podcast, newsletter, book and TV show recs that you believe other women in this space would benefit from to curate and share in an upcoming year-end issue.
Thanks,
Mandy
This month's 5 things:

|
1. One of the best things I read:
I'm currently devouring a collection of essays from members of the National Basketball Social Justice Coalition in the new book “The Power of Basketball”, get your copy here. All proceeds benefit the non-profit missions of the Vera Institute of Justice and the Coalition.

3. Opportunities to consider:
Positive Coaching Alliance announced that nominations are now open for the 2025 PCA Coach of the Year Award. For more details and to submit your nomination (now through Nov. 1st), click here. Also,Million Coaches Challenge working to train 25,000 youth coaches in California by 2025. Coaches and orgs interested in joining the 25x25 California Coaches Challenge, can sign up for training.

5. Women to watch:
This month, I especially want to highlight those who are using their voice and vote in the upcoming U.S. Presidential election for Kamala Harris, just like Athletes for Harris supporters Candace Parker, Dawn Staley and more. Make sure you check that you’re registered to vote, and if you are a woman in sports who is indeed about social change, I hope you listen to Michelle Obama and DO SOMETHING. If you want to support a women’s sports specific call, get on the Hype Women 4 Harris train with me (and reach out to me directly if you have any potential guest speakers!). It’s time to make a full court press for Kamala as far as I’m concerned.
