W.I.S.S.C. Monthly Minute

3 things this month for Women in Sports for Social Change

Hi ladies,

As the fall gets underway, on this second Wednesday, here's our September issue. Please take a moment and check out the opportunities below, in particular a fantastic 'Soulful Women in Sport' retreat upcoming next month, co-hosted by this month's W.I.S.S.C. Woman of Wisdom - the amazing Dr. Ashleigh Huffman.

Keep sharing via our private LinkedIn group and supporting each other through the power of sports.

Thanks,
Mandy

This month's 3 things:

1. One of the best things I saw:

ICYMI, watch the legendary Maya Moore's acceptance speech from this past weekend as she was inducted into the Class of 2025 at the Basketball Hall of Fame. She competes now in bringing as much life to her community as she can - something we can all do.

2. What to watch for:

Upcoming next month:

Women Leaders in Sports Convention - Oct. 12-14 (Kansas City, MO)

ISSJ Power of Sport event - Oct 14 (Boston, MA)

Soulful Women in Sport Retreat - Oct. 16-19 (Palm Desert, CA) *Created for women in sport who give everything to their teams, relationships, careers, and communities—yet rarely carve out space for themselves. This retreat offers time to pause, restore, and get clear on your best contributions; a community of like-minded women who understand the demands of leadership; and the freedom to set down the mask of performance and reconnect with what fuels you most. Register by October 1—or before it sells out!*

WSF Annual Gala - Honoring Michele Kang - Oct. 22 (NYC)

Adapted Sports Labs conference - 10/29-30 (virtual)

Also, reminder, still to come this month:

Sportico RISE Women's Sports - Sept. 16 (NYC)

NRPA Conference - Sept. 16-18 (Orlando)

SBJ Game Changers - Sept. 24-25 (NYC)

US Youth Soccer Grassroots Symposium - Sept. 25-28 (Kansas City)

3. Woman of Wisdom:

Meet Ashleigh Huffman, PhD – Sr. Director of Strategic Partnerships at the Aspen Institute. As a former athlete turned global sports diplomat, she has spent her career harnessing the power of sport to promote peace, break barriers, and create opportunities for young people. Her work focuses on using sport as a catalyst for gender equity, inclusion, and global social change.

HER ADVICE TO WISSC READERS: "In a world that often asks women to shrink, sport gives us space to expand. Protect your joy by choosing work that lights you up, build your community by surrounding yourself with people who both challenge and champion you, and trust that even small acts of courage—speaking up in a meeting, mentoring a young girl, or advocating for equity—create ripples of change far greater than you can see in the moment."

HOW YOU CAN HELP HER: "One way you can support me right now is by joining or sharing the upcoming Soulful Women in Sport retreat that I’m co-creating with Dr. Tanya Raquel. This gathering is designed to help women in sport reconnect with themselves, navigate identity and transitions, and find strength in community. If you or someone you know is craving space to breathe, reflect, and rise alongside other powerful women, I’d love for you to stay tuned, spread the word, and connect with me to learn more."

Thanks for reading and for being a part of our WISSC community!
