Women In Sports for Social Change - Issue 32 - October 14, 2026

W.I.S.S.C. Monthly Minute

3 things this month for Women In Sports for Social Change

Hi ladies,

In our October 2026 issue below you'll find upcoming events to check out and also some great new job opportunities (all with salary ranges listed because, although I may sound like a broken record, it helps to close pay equity gaps, which is clearly needed as a new report this week noted "women nonprofit CEOs earn 75 cents for every dollar men earn, less than they did a decade ago").

I'd also encourage you to scroll down and meet this month's WISSC Woman of Wisdom, Amy of Rebel Nell, who I met through this very community. She's doing some really cool stuff making sports memorabilia into jewelry, keepsakes and more, all while providing employment opportunities for women, a win-win.

Oh and a quick admin footnote, ICYMI on our private community LinkedIn page, we now have a public-facing 'front door' so more women can find us, please give it a follow if you haven't already here, and better yet, share it with a friend!

Thanks,
Mandy

P.S. With thanks again to Hotel Zena for hosting our Fall happy hour in DC last month, stay tuned for upcoming save-the-date for our next gathering.

3. WISSC Woman of Wisdom:

Meet Amy Peterson, Founder + CEO of Rebel Nell. After 11 years as Associate Counsel for the Detroit Tigers, Amy co-founded Rebel Nell, a Detroit-based social enterprise creating employment opportunities for women facing barriers to the traditional workforce.

What began by repurposing fallen graffiti, including debris from Joe Louis Arena, has grown into a business partnering with teams, leagues, venues, brands and major events to transform meaningful materials into unique keepsakes, premium gifts and interactive fan experiences, combining sustainability, storytelling and social impact.

HER ADVICE:

"One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is to stop asking people to support your mission and start showing them how your mission can help solve a problem they already have. Social impact is most powerful when it isn’t treated as an add-on. At Rebel Nell, our impact is built directly into the value we provide. We might be helping a team preserve an important piece of history, create an unforgettable fan experience, find a more sustainable use for meaningful material, or create a truly unique gift, and at the same time, that work creates opportunity for women. My advice to other women working in sports and social change is: know the value you bring, be specific about what you’re asking for, and don’t underestimate the power of your own story."

HOW YOU CAN HELP HER:

Know a team, league, brand or venue that could turn a meaningful sports moment or material into something memorable?

Get in touch with Mandy, founder of WISSC, for a personal introduction to Amy to arrange a 15-minute call to explore what Rebel Nell could help you create together.

Thanks for reading and being a part of this community.
